Everything He Wanted!

Psalm 17:13b-15 ESV – Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword, from men by your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants.
Do you have everything you want? This guy did. He represents the man of this world who chases after the things of this world because he is satisfied by the things of this world. The psalmist calls the person who is satisfied in the creation but apathetic toward the Creator a wicked man.
Certainly the Christian enjoys many things in this life, but he enjoys the things of this life as one enjoys a gift from a long distance lover. The gift draws his heart toward the one he loves so that he longs for her more. The Christian can not be satisfied by the things of this world because this world is no longer his home.
Psalm 17:15 ESV – As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.
The psalmist goes on to talk about a different guy. This guy isn’t satisfied in this life. He represents the man of God, who pursues the Lord, because he is satisfied by the Lord. The Christian longs to see Jesus.
Christian, do you feel a longing in your heart to see Jesus or have you been sidetracked by secondary pursuits – like a man somehow so satisfied in a gift just sent him that he forgets about his long distance lover?
The Christian is satisfied in Jesus and will someday be completely satisfied at the sight of Him. Praise God!
